ChatGPT Sites is OpenAI's way to build and host a website without leaving ChatGPT. It is in public beta on the Plus, Pro and workspace plans, not on the Free or Go plans, and not in the EU, the UK or Switzerland at launch. During the beta it costs nothing on top of your plan, up to usage limits that depend on the plan, and a domain you already own can point at a site.

What ChatGPT Sites is
You describe a website or a small app, ChatGPT builds it, shows you a private preview, and changes it as you ask. When you are happy, you publish it and get an address. OpenAI describes it as including hosting, access controls, storage and database support.
It works in ChatGPT on the web and in the desktop app. Asking for a website is
enough to start one, or you can mention @Sites in your message.
What it costs
There is no separate price during the public beta. Sites usage is included in your plan up to limits that OpenAI sets per plan and applies across every site on the account, and those limits may change during the beta.
If you reach one, you may not be able to create a new site, add storage, or keep a busy site publicly available until usage comes down. You can still edit and manage the sites you have.
So the real cost is the ChatGPT plan itself: Sites is not on the Free or Go plans at all.
Who can use it
- Plans: Plus, Pro and ChatGPT workspace plans. Not Free or Go.
- Countries: not in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK at launch.
- Workspaces: on Business it is on by default. On Enterprise an admin has to switch it on, and publishing to the public internet is off until an admin allows it.
If you cannot see it, OpenAI's own checklist is your plan, your country, whether the rollout has reached your account, and whether you are signed in to the right workspace.
Custom domains
A site can use a domain you already own, where custom domains are available. Sites does not register a domain for you: you add the DNS records it gives you at the company you bought the name from, wait a few minutes, and refresh the domain's status. Custom domains are not available in Enterprise workspaces at launch.
Limits worth knowing before you build
- Some things are not supported. OpenAI says some frameworks, private networks, databases, background services and hosting patterns may not work on the Sites runtime.
- No live data connections yet. A site cannot connect directly to live data sources; OpenAI suggests a separate automation that refreshes it.
- Every deployment is live. Each deployment URL is a production URL. Save a version and review it before deploying if you do not want visitors to see a work in progress.
- Deleting is permanent. A deleted site cannot be restored.
- What it must not hold. Sites must not process sensitive data such as health records or card numbers (payments through a third-party processor are fine), or be aimed at children under 13.
- No data residency for sites, their code, their storage or their logs at launch.
Who can see a site
A new site is visible only to its owner and the workspace admins until you change that. Depending on your plan and workspace, you can share it with selected people or groups, invite named viewers from outside the workspace, open it to everyone in the workspace, or publish it to anyone on the internet.
ChatGPT Sites alternatives
ChatGPT Sites is a good fit if you already pay for ChatGPT, live outside Europe, and want to build and host without leaving ChatGPT.
It is not an option on the free ChatGPT plan, or anywhere in the EU, the UK or Switzerland for now. For those, and for anyone who wants every version kept or uses more than one assistant, there are other ways to publish what ChatGPT builds:
- ChatGPT with Codex, or ChatGPT with DashPloy added as a connector, can publish to DashPloy. The free plan here has two websites and one custom domain, works in Europe, and keeps every version so a mistake can be undone.
- On the free ChatGPT plan, ask ChatGPT for the files and hand them to Antigravity, which is free and can publish them.
